Over the years, the boxing community has witnessed the rise and dominance of several elite boxers. Notably, boxing legend Mike Tyson and current heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk are two prominent figures on this list. Speaking of Usyk, a top boxing analyst has identified the 19-year-old heavyweight boxer Moses Itauma as the potential kryptonite for the Ukrainian champion.
Recently, Oleksandr Usyk delivered a dominant performance against British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury. This victory sparked discussions about who can defeat the Ukrainian boxing champion in the heavyweight division. In this context, former boxing world champion George Groves shared his insights. Notably, he mentioned an intriguing name as the future of the heavyweight boxing division.
Interestingly, Groves isn’t the only one to discuss Usyk’s formidable skills as a boxer. Since his rematch victory over Fury, the Ukrainian boxing champion has solidified his position in the division. As a result, many believe that Usyk is a tough opponent to defeat in the current era. However, the boxing analyst seems to disagree, suggesting that Moses Itauma could pose a significant threat.
According to Groves, Itauma is somewhat reminiscent of a young Mike Tyson. Specifically, the boxing legend was a formidable force in the 1980s and holds the record for being the youngest heavyweight boxing champion. Interestingly, at just 19 years old, Itauma is on the verge of breaking Tyson’s 38-year-old record.
Can Moses Itauma break Mike Tyson’s youngest heavyweight champion record?
Moses Itauma began his professional boxing career in January 2023. Since his debut, he has been a dominant force in the heavyweight division, similar to Oleksandr Usyk. He currently has an undefeated record of 11 wins and holds the WBO Intercontinental heavyweight title. His success can largely be attributed to his impressive boxing skills.
Interestingly, Itauma has the chance to break Mike Tyson’s record as the youngest heavyweight boxing champion. However, he only has about four months to achieve this. Currently, Daniel Dubois holds the IBF heavyweight title, while Oleksandr Usyk holds the WBC, WBA (Super), IBO, WBO, and The Ring heavyweight titles. To secure a championship fight, Itauma needs to compete against these two boxers.
Interestingly, while Usyk recently fought last weekend, Dubois is scheduled to defend his title against Joseph Parker on the upcoming Riyadh Season card on February 22. That being said, the Ukrainian boxer may choose to rest for a while. For Itauma to break Tyson’s record, it would only be possible if Parker somehow pulled out of his fight against Dubois.
