Ryan Garcia is arguably one of the biggest superstars in the boxing community. In addition to his impressive boxing record, ’King Ry’ often makes headlines due to his antics. As a result, he has not been actively competing in boxing lately. Recently, his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, came forward to discuss about the 26-year-old boxer.
Recently, Oscar De La Hoya in an interview session with Fight Hub TV, discussed several intriguing topics. Among them, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions shared his thoughts on Ryan Garcia’s return to the boxing ring. Additionally, De La Hoya addressed the cancellation of Garcia’s rumored exhibition bout in Japan.
Ryan Garcia got hurt. I believe his wrist or his shoulder. So, we have a pending meeting with Ryan’s team and then we’ll take it from there but I’m not sure exactly what’s going to happen with Fanmio or with Rizin. I’m not sure if Ryan wants to follow through with the exhibition but one thing I do know for sure is that Ryan is reinstated.

Garcia and De La Hoya have been close associates for a long time. Golden Boy Promotions signed ‘King Ry’ when he was just 17 years old. Since then, the two have developed a strong camaraderie, with De La Hoya often acting as a guardian to Garcia. However, when De La Hoya heard about the rumored exhibition match between the 26-year-old Garcia and Rukiya Anpo, he became quite upset.
Despite the situation, the Golden Boy boss holds no animosity towards his star boxer. He remains optimistic about mending their relationship and plans to meet with Garcia and his team. Currently, the 26-year-old boxer is facing a year-long suspension from the sport after testing positive for Ostarine in his last fight. With only a few months left until the ban ends, De La Hoya also talked about Garcia’s potential comeback fight.
Oscar De La Hoya wants Ryan Garcia to prepare for a ‘tuneup’ fight
Ryan Garcia has impressive professional boxing statistics, boasting a record of 24 wins, 1 loss, and 1 no-contest. Over the years, he has defeated several formidable opponents and has faced defeat only once. However, following a no-contest in which Garcia tested positive for doping against Devin Haney, he became involved in multiple controversies.
Garcia has called out several elite fighters and boxers for potential exhibition matches. As such, the 26-year-old boxer believes that such an event would be beneficial before his return to professional boxing. Jake Paul was one of the notable names in the list of being a potential warm-up fight for Garcia. Interestingly, Oscar De La Hoya shares the same opinion.
A fighter having a year layoff is never a good thing. So, his comeback fight must be some kind of warmup fight, a tuneup fight we call in boxing, somebody that is not a world champion because right now, in his division, whether it’s 147 lbs or in between 140 and 147, there are a lot of great names out there for him.
