Charlie Woods and Tiger Woods shot an impressive score of 59 in the first round of the PNC Championship and are tied for top spot.

On Saturday, golf great Tiger Woods made his return to the sport after undergoing another back surgery. He teamed up with his son Charlie Woods at the 2024 PNC Championship. After an impressive performance in the first round, his son hilariously quipped back at him.

Woods was last seen at the Open Championship in July where he missed the cut. This was the third straight major where he missed the cut. Following the event, he underwent a back surgery as his back continued to create some problems for him.

The father-son duo of Woods fired an impressive score of 59 in the first round. Their score of 13-under sees them top of the leaderboard along with defending champions Team Langer (Bernhard Langer and Jason Langer) and Team Singh (Vijay Singh and Qass Singh).

Following the conclusion of the round, a reporter claimed that Woods was downplaying the state of his game. The 15-time major champion hit some good shots from the tee which led to him claiming that it looked good from the standpoint.

While Woods simply said “Yeah it’s okay“, his son Charlie quickly joked about him. The youngster claimed that his father was finally keeping up with him.

Charlie Woods said

Team Woods made 13 birdies in round one including five consecutive ones on the back nine. This saw them finish the final nine holes with a score of 29, and put themselves in a good position to contend for the title on Sunday.

Sam Woods and Charlie Woods caught in hilarious exchange at 2024 PNC Championship

Apart from his son Charlie Woods, Tiger Woods’ daughter Sam Woods was also present at the PNC Championship. After making her debut as Woods’ caddie at the 2023 event, she returned to carry the bag for her father this year. During the event, the siblings were caught in a hilarious exchange.

While Charlie was impressive with the putting, his tee shots were something that he was not pleased with. At one hole after taking his shot, he got back and waited for his father to take the shot.

Seemingly unimpressed with his own shot, he urged his dad to hit it better than him while saying “Please hit it harder than me.”

This led to Sam Woods hitting back at his brother. Perhaps, she was not happy with her brother downplaying his performance and claimed that he was being “negative“.

This is the fifth time, Team Woods is competing at the PNC Championship. Their best finish came in 2021 when they runners-up to Team Daly. A win on Sunday could see Tiger Woods end a five-year winless run. His last victory in any competition came at the Zozo Championship in October 2019.
