The 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon saw several top players, including Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, and Bryson DeChambeau, miss the cut. The challenging conditions, with strong winds, resulted in a high cutline of 6-over par.
McIlroy, who was trying to rebound from an opening-round 78, struggled in the second round. He made a triple-bogey 8 on the par-5 fourth hole and ultimately finished at 11-over par, well off the cutline.
I've had 14 holes to deal with everything I've been feeling. After the eight on four I resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn't be here for the weekend.Rory McIlroy said of his performance to Sky Golf
Woods, who lamented his lack of competitive reps, never got anything going and shot 14-over par (79-77) to miss the cut. This marked his highest opening two rounds at a major since the 2015 U.S. Open.
The missed cuts continue a disappointing major season for McIlroy and Woods. McIlroy is now guaranteed to not have won a major in a full decade, with his last triumph coming in the 2014 PGA Championship. Woods, who was a combined 44-over par in the year’s four majors, will not play again until the unofficial Hero World Challenge in December.

Half of the world’s top 20 players missed the cut, including Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood, and Sahith Theegala. The cut was a tough reality for many players, as Padraig Harrington stated, “Cuts are always a nasty thing.”
Round 3 of the 2024 Open Championship will take place at Royal Troon, with 80 players competing. The first tee time, 3:55 a.m. ET, will feature Darren Fichardt and Tommy Morrison.
Shane Lowry currently leads the event at 7 under par. He is followed by Dan Brown and Justin Rose, both of whom are at 5 under. Lowry finished well in Round 2, making three birdies in his final three holes.
