PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan has once again found himself in hot waters. With the year 2024 coming to an end, the top golf boss delivered a message to the fans on social media. However, they were not pleased with this and attacked him.
In a statement, Monahan thanked the fans for their support during the 2024 campaign. During this, he revealed a piece of major news that the tour was looking to hire a new CEO for the tour. This is because current COO Ron Price is set to retire soon.
Monahan said that they are looking to bring in new perspectives onto their team. He later expressed his excitement to meet new candidates for this new role.

This message from him also comes at a time when the tour continues to find a way to finalize the merger deal. In June 2023, Monahan shook hands with Public Investment Fund (PIF) governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan and agreed to unite the sport of golf.
18 months later, the two parties have yet to reach a final agreement. As per Tiger Woods, things are very fluid at the moment. Given the current situation, it is likely that this rumored $1.3 billion deal could take a few more months to go through.
In the video statement, Jay Monahan also said that “everything was on the table” as the tour tries to find ways to evolve their product.

A couple of weeks ago, reports emerged that Monahan had raked up $23 million in regular and deferred compensation during the year 2023. This was around $5 million more than what he had made in 2022. This left the fans angry and then once again attacked him.
Will Monahan’s relationship with the fans ever improve? That remains to be seen. For now, the PGA Tour Commissioner will look forward to finding a new CEO for the tour and potentially finding ways that could allow the merger deal to go through.
