It had to happen at some point, but unfortunately for Caleb Williams, he threw his sixth interception of the season at possibly the worst time of a game, which undeniably played a massive part in the Chicago Bears’ 12th defeat (10th consecutive loss) of the season at the Seattle Seahawks’ expense. The game ended with an abysmal 3-6 score line—among the lowest of 2024.

With barely under twenty seconds left until the final whistle, Williams was left with the mammoth task of leading the Bears fifty yards down the line to the Seahawks’ end zone. After snapping the ball on fourth and ten, the 23-year-old searched for a receiver deep down the field, but Seahawks cornerback Coby Bryant closed him down quickly.

Bryant’s pressure forced Williams to throw a wobbly pass forward, which sailed over veteran receiver Keenan Allen’s head and into the hands of Riq Woolen for an interception.

Football fans blast Caleb Williams for poor performance against Seattle Seahawks

After a couple of blockbuster Christmas Day games that broke several viewership records, football fans tuned in to Thursday night for something similar. Instead, they were left with utter frustration as neither the Bears nor the Seahawks offense got going.

Williams ended week 17 with 16 completions from 28 attempts (57.1% completion rate, which is his fifth-worst outing) for 122 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception (lost his longest streak of passes without throwing an interception as a rookie quarterback).

The most yards Williams threw from one pass in the game was 16. He threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to fellow rookie Rome Odunze in the second quarter, but the officials nullified it as a penalty.

The number against the Seahawks was a massive drop-off for Williams from his week 16 outing against the Detroit Lions. Even though the Bears lost the game, Williams threw for 334 yards and two touchdowns.

Bears fans may put him on a pedestal, but the USC graduate has decent individual numbers. In 16 games he completed 330 passes from 553 attempts (61.9%) for 3393 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions with a quarterback rating of 45.9 (30th in the league for active QBs). Additionally, he carried the ball 78 times for 479 yards.
