Caleb Williams, the 23-year-old Washington-born Chicago Bears rookie quarterback, has had a steep downward spiral in his nascent NFL career. Williams, drafted first overall in the last NFL Draft, took the Bears to an almost 5-2 start before Jayden Daniels threw a Hail Mary, marking the beginnings of Williams’ aforementioned spiral.

In the days leading up to the draft and the days that followed, Caleb Williams was the messiah that was promised to the fans. There was hope in the Windy City, back to winning ways at the least. The Bears made playoffs only twice in the last ten years while the last playoff win was way back in 2010.

In the long history of the Super Bowl era, the Bears made the trip to the end twice, bringing home the sole Super Bowl in 1985. Once one extends the NFL history past the Super Bowl era, the Bears are among the clubs with the most championships, winning 8 titles between 1920 and 1965.

In the post-match interviews, Williams came out to address the offensive failures and the hard-hitting loss. The rookie displayed immense bravery with his act of coming forward and admitting that he played a role in the shambles that they found themselves in. However, while confronting a question as to why the fans were booing, Williams had a response that didn’t sit well with fans.

This is my first year. Their frustrations go way longer back than I’ve been here. My job is to go out there and win games. We don’t focus on the outside noise. Fans are going to cheer and maybe boo sometimes. You can’t react to that.

Caleb Williams quipped

The frustrations sure did start way before Williams’ arrival. Nevertheless, Williams shrugged it off as if it didn’t matter maybe wasn’t right. In the 2022 and 2023 seasons, under Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus, the Bears lost fourteen games in a row. It was only last October 5th, the Bears snapped the longest skid in history against the Washington Commanders.

The current streak started on October 27th this year against a refurbished Commanders who are a win away from making the postseason. To many, the Chicago Bears and its longstanding history is part of who they are. As Richard Gillman once noted, it is a relief from the pressures and seriousness of the outside world.

Chicago Bears fans aren’t happy with the Caleb Williams statement post hard-hitting loss

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Chicago Bears in one of the worst offensive games in history at a score of 6-3 on their turf. The gloomy 6-3 affair is the second game without a touchdown this season as well as the lowest-scoring game so far. The Bears suffered their tenth straight loss, matching their single-season franchise record.

The fans are unsurpsingly very much angry against the franchise and the way they are heading towards. An X user @ChadCoo30346954 commented that he believes the franchise is ruined after the disappointing loss and Williams’ comments.

Certain users also pointed out the usage of certain filler words by Caleb Williams in the entire speech. He also received blame for his poor choice of words and lack of preparation.

Amid all the outdoor noises, A silver lining for Bears fans: Chicago improved its position in the 2025 NFL Draft, moving from the No. 9 pick to the No. 7 spot after enduring its 10th consecutive loss.
