At the moment, there seems to be no end to the misery of the New York Rangers. The team lost again on Tuesday night, this time suffering defeat at the hands of the Nashville Predators. They have now traded away forward Kaapo Kakko, which has led to the fans slamming them on social media.
The Finnish forward was a healthy scratch from the game against the St. Louis Blues. The player did not seem pleased with this decision and vented his frustration regarding this matter.
In an interview, he was asked whether he was surprised by this decision by the team management. Kakko boldly said that it was easy for the coach to pick out a young player and boot him away.
He further added that he was not the team’s worst player in this run of form and despite that he was out of the lineup.
#NYR Kaapo Kakko: “Haven’t been on the ice too much when [opponents] score a goal… I have not been the worst guy, but that was me out of the lineup.”

The 23-year-old has now been traded to the Seattle Kraken. In exchange, the Rangers received defenseman Will Borgen, a 2025 Third-Round pick and a 2025 Sixth-Round pick.

Kakko joined the Rangers in 2019 as a second-overall draft pick. That year he would go on to make his debut in the NHL. On October 12 that year, he went on to score his first goal in the league and become the eighth player in Rangers’ franchise history to score a goal at the age of 18 or younger.
In 30 games so far this season, he has picked up a total of just 14 points (4 goals and 10 assists) in the league. However, he had not scored or assisted a single point in his last four games.
Social media reactions to NY Rangers trading away Kaapo Kappo
The New York Rangers fans are obviously not in good spirits at the moment. The 2-0 loss on Tuesday against the Nashville Predators was their 10th loss in their last 13 games. The trade of Kaapo Kakko has once again left them furious.
Reacting to this development on social media, fans once again called out their management. Several users on X attacked GM Chris Drury. One fan wrote, “Fire Chris Drury,” whereas another wrote, “Embarrasing from you guys pathetic“.
Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

Hope the kid goes off in his new home.
Completely over Chris Drury.
Time for a switch.
I’m no expert but this literally feels like a workplace retaliation tactic. Kid speaks his mind (the truth) and immediately gets traded. Honestly he’s better off IMO

This team is a dumpster fire.

Kaapo Kakko led the team in +/- at +10 with a $2.1M cap hit when the entire team is underwater and the likes of Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider are at -30 for $8M cap hits. He also got no PP time and far less ice time than they.
I look forward to… pic.twitter.com/i8lkOX1KGo
I hope Kappo goes on the score 30 goals a year for the next 20 years. And every time he plays against this disgrace of a team, he fills the net with pucks!

He was consistently the hardest working skater on the ice. Kaapo, you deserved better than the NYR
This is crap

Kakko is now the second high-profile trade done by the Rangers during this run of form. The team recently parted ways with Jacob Trouba, who was their captain at the time.
The Rangers have now lost 5 of their last games. They have gone from 12-4-1 to 15-15-1 in the span of one month. Their next game is against the Dallas Stars on Friday. A loss in that game could ignite a few more roster moves for the 2023-24 President’s Trophy winners.
