On Wednesday, the four teams participating in the Four Nations Face-Off in 2025 announced their squad. Team Canada, backed by General Manager Don Sweeney, picked up some of the big names. There were some shocking snubs as well which included Chicago Blackhawks star, Connor Bedard.

Bedard, the 2023 No. 1 draft pick in the NHL, had a fantastic debut season with the Blackhawks. He emerged as one of the shining lights in the team’s dark 2023-24 season as he picked up 61 points (22 goals and 39 assists). This saw him being named the NHL Rookie of the Year.

The 2024-25 season though has not been an easy one for him so far. The 19-year-old went on a 12-game scoreless streak as he struggled on the ice. He though is still the leading point scorer for the Hawks this season with 19 points (5 goals and 14 assists).

These performances have now cost him a chance to represent his nation at the Four Nations Face-Off. While stars like Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Brad Marchand, Nathan MacKinnon, and Mitch Marner all made the list, Bedard was left out by Sweeney.

Another big name that has not been picked is Macklin Celebrini. The San Jose Sharks youngster, just like Bedard, has impressed in his debut season.

Reacting to the picks, Sweeney claimed that every player they considered had unique qualities. He further said that the decided to reward those who earned an opportunity for this by their performances but did admit that Bedard and Celebrini were on their radar.

Each and every one of those players are neat in their own way. We just felt that we weren’t going to push aside anybody that deserved and earned an opportunity to play in this event nowHopefully, each, every one of those guys you referenced, will continue to make it harder on us.
