On Wednesday, the four teams participating in the Four Nations Face-Off in 2025 announced their squad. Team Canada, backed by General Manager Don Sweeney, picked up some of the big names. There were some shocking snubs as well which included Chicago Blackhawks star, Connor Bedard.
Bedard, the 2023 No. 1 draft pick in the NHL, had a fantastic debut season with the Blackhawks. He emerged as one of the shining lights in the team’s dark 2023-24 season as he picked up 61 points (22 goals and 39 assists). This saw him being named the NHL Rookie of the Year.
The 2024-25 season though has not been an easy one for him so far. The 19-year-old went on a 12-game scoreless streak as he struggled on the ice. He though is still the leading point scorer for the Hawks this season with 19 points (5 goals and 14 assists).
These performances have now cost him a chance to represent his nation at the Four Nations Face-Off. While stars like Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Brad Marchand, Nathan MacKinnon, and Mitch Marner all made the list, Bedard was left out by Sweeney.

Another big name that has not been picked is Macklin Celebrini. The San Jose Sharks youngster, just like Bedard, has impressed in his debut season.
Reacting to the picks, Sweeney claimed that every player they considered had unique qualities. He further said that the decided to reward those who earned an opportunity for this by their performances but did admit that Bedard and Celebrini were on their radar.

Social media reacts to Connor Bedard not getting picked for Team Canada at Four Nations Face-Off
Ever since stepping on the ice rink, Connor Bedard has continued to vow the fans with his performances. In his young career so far, the forward has achieved success with Canada’s under-18 team and the Canadian national junior team. Despite this, Bedard was not picked for Team Canada for the Four Nations Face-Off.

Bouchard and Bedard definitely got snubbed, and our goaltending is so much weaker than it used to be.

Too bad we couldnât have another spot for a younger player like Celebrini.
Hagel, Bennett, Sanheim, Montembeault, Hill all shouldnât be there

U could make an argument for Jarvis, Parayko, Cirelli but Iâm fine w all 3.
Wouldâve rather seen Hamilton, Bedard, anybody else over Hagel , Blackwood, Talbot
What a joke no BĂŠdard or Bouchard, Hyman. Copper clearly made the picks. Such bs.

Fuckin bullshit no Scheifele on this team. He's better than a half dozen of the guys they picked. Cirelli, Jarvis, Bennett GTFOH đ

— El Legend (@ElLgND) December 5, 2024
You have to be on meth to choose Anthony Cirelli and Brandon Hagel over Zach Hyman and any one of Nick Suzuki, Mark Scheifele, Mat Barzal, Carter Verhaeghe, Jordan Kyrou, Steven Stamkos, or Connor Bedard.

The Four Nations Face-Off will take place from February 12 to February 20, 2025. Apart from Canada, Team USA, Finland, and Sweden will take part in this competition. This tournament is said to prepare the team for the 2026 Olympics as hockey makes a comeback in the Winter Games.
