Things are going from bad to worse for the New York Rangers. After starting the season with a 12-4-1 record, the 2023-24 President’s Trophy winners have suffered a major slump. Following their 5-1 loss on Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings, the team was brutally booed by the fans.
This was the Rangers 9th loss in the last 12 games. This saw their record go from an impressive 12-4-1 to 15-13-1, which has seen their standings take a major hit. The team are currently fifth in the Metropolitan Division Standings.
Once again the Rangers conceded early on as the Kings took a 1-0 lead through Alex Turcotte in the first period. Warren Foegle doubled the team’s advantage later on as he tapped in a rebound to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
The Rangers were once again unable to contain their opponents. Goals from Quinton Byfield, Adrian Kempe, and Phillip Danault in the second period made it a 5-0 game for the Kings. Filip Chytil pulled one back for the hosts in the second period.
The surprising stat is that the Rangers and the Kings both had 32 shots on goal in this game. It was the Kings who made their efforts count more. This performance left the crowd angry. By the time the game came to an end, an angry Madison Square Garden erupted in a chorus of boos.

Rangers coach HC Peter Laviolette expresses frustration following another loss
With every loss, the pressure keeps on mounting on the shoulders of New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette. The loss on Saturday against the Kings once again left him frustrated.
The 60-year-old expressed that he was not happy with the team’s start. In the press conference after the game, Laviolette said he was frustrated with the speed of play from the Rangers.

The American coach also spoke on the defensive ability of the team. He said that the team needs to ‘knock down’ some people and make defending a priority.
The Rangers are now expecting to make several changes in the upcoming days. This could see a few players being traded away. Coach Laviolette’s future is also on the balance with one analyst claiming that his tenure could come to a “premature end” if things do not improve.
