Tanner McKee played his first few snaps in the NFL when the Philadelphia Eagles brought him on to replace injured Kenny Pickett in the third quarter. He completed a total of three passes from four tries and one of them was a touchdown pass to AJ Brown.

Brown was a sitting duck the entire game before the touchdown, and he threw the ball way up in the stands after scoring it. The ball was long gone when McKee went to check on it.

Back at the dugout, McKee was seen speaking with teammate Ian Book about the touchdown ball.

Where’s 11 (AJ Brown)?

Tanner McKee asked.

He threw your ball.

Book replied.

McKee looked slightly disappointed because every quarterback loves to keep their first touchdown ball as a memento. Fortunately, the Stanford graduate revealed that he had friends and family where Brown launched the ball.

Moments later, AJ Brown entered the frame with the all, which instantly lit up McKee’s face. The All-Pro receiver congratulated the second-year quarterback for his first touchdown.

Hey, thank you sir, I appreciate it. Thank you for making that great play.

Tanner McKee shared his thoughts about playing first snaps in the NFL

McKee played just two full seasons at Stanford before announcing for the draft in 2023. After selecting him in the sixth round, the Eagles put him on the practice squad. He was activated after Jalen Hurts picked up an injury in week 16 to back up Pickett.

The snaps against the Cowboys were not just his first ever in the NFL but his first snaps since college.

It’s surreal. You grow up dreaming of playing college football, and then someday in the NFL, and so to actually be able to play in the NFL, play with these guys, throw a touchdown pass and win a game was surreal.

Tanner McKee said via Philadelphia Eagles official transcript.

Brown wasn’t the only receiver McKee threw a touchdown to. Moments after recovering the ball from the Cowboys, the 24-year-old hit DeVonta Smith for his and Smith’s second touchdown of the game. McKee ended with 75 yards and two scores on his NFL debut. Brown logged 3 for 36 and one score while Smith had 6 catches for 120 yards and 2 scores.

The Eagles finished with a 7-41 score and improved to 13-3 for the season and won the NFC East. With the Green Bay Packers losing to the Minnesota Vikings on the same day, the win provided them a platform to snatch the NFC top seed on the final day when they host the New York Giants.
