Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi's massive €40 million asking price poses a problem for Arsenal, who are interested in signing him.

Atalanta keeper Marco Carnesecchi has reportedly been identified as a transfer target by Premier League giants Arsenal. This comes after his impressive performances in the Serie A. The 24-year-old shot-stopper has helped Atalanta remain on top of the Serie A table this season. However, the goalkeeper’s massive €40 million asking price has posed a major challenge.

Marco Carnesecchi has emerged as one of the Italian top-flight’s best keepers. He has recorded 48 saves for his team. Carnesecchi had to wait for his debut for a long time, and played second fiddle to Juan Musso and Pier Luigi Gollini. After a brilliant year-long loan spell at Cremonese, he made his debut for Atalanta in 2023. He has not looked back since then, making a total of 55 appearances in two years.

Ahead of the January transfer window, the 24-year-old keeper is being targeted by Arsenal, as a backup for David Raya. Mikel Arteta is reportedly the ‘most’ interested, after having previously failed to acquire Espanyol’s Joan Garcia this summer.

The Gunners failed to match Garcia’s €30 million price-tag. They instead brought in veteran keeper Neto, on loan from Bournemouth. The club might face a similar issue with Carnesecchi’s signature, as Atalanta might demand at least €40 to €50 million for his services.

Apart from the London giants, PSG has also expressed interest, following Gianluigi Donnarumma’s recent injury. However, Atalanta director Tony D’Amico recently insisted that the club would not sell its players in the January transfer window after having momentum in the Serie A title race.

Arsenal eyes January move for Wolverhampton star Matheus Cunha after Bukayo Saka’s recent injury

The Gunners are one of the several EPL sides interested in signing Wolverhampton sensation Matheus Cunha after an ‘extraordinary’ campaign for the forward. Arsenal wants the 25-year-old forward to replace the injured Bukayo Saka

Saka’s recent hamstring injury has posed a selection dilemma for manager Mikel Arteta. Raheem Sterling’s training injury also added to the woes in the race to the EPL title. Looking for a striker would be their top priority in the winter transfer window for the Gunners. Cunha has emerged as a top candidate. The Brazilian has led Wolves this season, and has notched up 14 goal contributions in 18 matches.

Additionally, Arsenal’s recent 1-0 win over Ipswich Town highlighted their attacking struggles as well as their weak bench strength. In case they fail to sign Cunha, the Gunners have also identified Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic as options. Only time will tell how the club performs without their star player.
