“Dnt bring yo a** back to LA!” Former Lakers star reacts to D’Angelo Russell trade after his role in Iggy Azalea controversy

Nick Young's relationship with rapper Iggy Azalea ended due to Los Angeles Lakers teammate D'Angelo Russell

After D’Angelo Russell was traded away from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Brooklyn Nets, basketball fans were debating about his career. He is returning to the Nets to start his second stint there after completing his second stint wearing the purple and gold.

His first stint with the Los Angeles Lakers was when they selected him with the second overall pick in 2015. He spent two seasons with the team before the organization ironically traded him to the Brooklyn Nets. At the time, he was growing in his role as a scorer and started 60 games in his second season.

Usually such a move would trigger alarm bells as fans would not understand the logic of trading such a player unless they were receiving some franchise altering superstars in return. Then Lakers GM Magic Johnson clarified that it was something Russell did off the court that factored in his departure.

That off the court incident involved his then teammate Nick Young. The young Russell wanted to pull a prank on his veteran teammate and recorded a video of him bragging about cheating on his then fiancée rapper Iggy Azalea.

Eventually, that video leaked, and it led to Azalea calling off her engagement to Young. His Lakers teammates banned him from eating with them, leading to his eventual trade. Now that Russell is on his way out of Los Angeles, Nick Young took the opportunity to send a message.

AND STAY OUT… Dnt bring yo a** back to LA

Nick Young is usually known for his goofy style and therefore never confronted Russell directly about that leak. But his latest message seemingly suggests ‘Swaggy P’ was happy the ‘snitch’ left his favorite team for good.

D’Angelo Russell’s career could go either way

D’Angelo Russell is playing in his tenth season in the NBA. In that time, stat sheets would suggest he has move four teams. However, when one looks closer, that number grows to six when counting the two times he played for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets.

What makes it difficult for the one-time All-Star is that this is his contract year. With his current deal expiring at the end of this season, he will be potential piece for teams. However, it all depends on how he plays for the rest of this season.

He will be back as a starter after coming off the bench for much of this season with the Lakers. In his new role as a veteran leader, franchises will keep tabs on how he leads them. If he leads by example, a contending growing franchise could want him.

If he continues to show his recent woes, he will at best be a role player for a contender. Either he ends up with another major contract as he approaches 30, or he will end up with a deal similar to what he has now.
