D’Angelo Russell has become the Los Angeles Lakers’ third man, adequately stepping up when needed in the absence of LeBron James or Anthony Davis.

This was evident from his 44-point performance in the 123-122 win over the Milwaukee Bucks, where he scored 21 points alone in the game’s final quarter to cap an impressive night for the Purple and Gold. However, that wasn’t the case last season.

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham preferred former Lakers player Dennis Schroder, whom he deemed a better player off the ball as Russell struggled with rhythm. This led to Russell’s bold claim, where he called out his former teammate for being the reason he and Coach Ham didn’t get along well.

However, this allegation from D’Angelo Russell was found distasteful by the American rapper Mase (real name Mason Durell Betha) on a recent episode of the podcast show “Come and Talk 2 Me—It is Wat It Is”. 

He got a whole new generation he’s snitching on. This generational snitch right here. You know, he’s gonna make it his business to snitch on somebody. Like, yo, D’Angelo Russell, chill out. You don’t gotta tell on everybody, man.
In the episode, Mase said:

From the basketball side of things, it’s great to see that Russell and Coach Ham have mended their relationship. The former has been in tremendous form and has started to show why he was highly rated before entering the league.

However, he could have dealt with the Dennis Schroder matter better than he did and could have easily avoided creating a pattern of “generational snitching“, just like it was insinuated during Nick Young‘s case.

What happened between D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young?

D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young (nicknamed Swaggy P) were close teammates during the former’s first spell with the Lakers. However, this bond between the two didn’t last long due to an infamous prank incident.

For context, during the 2016 season, D’Lo secretly filmed a conversation he had with Young where an oblivious Young admitted to cheating on his then-fiance and American rapper, Iggy Azalea. As the video was leaked, it ended up ruining Swaggy P’s reputation as well as the couple’s engagement.

As expected, the incident led to both players being traded from the team. It ruined their friendship and resulted in D’Lo being isolated by his teammates.
