Fernando Alonso has raced for Aston Martin since 2023. The two-time world champion has struggled in the past year with the Silverstone-based squad failing to match rivals. Now, team boss Mike Krack has confessed that the performance slump must’ve impacted Alonso.
The Spanish driver had a decent start to his Aston Martin stint in 2023 with multiple podiums. Unfortunately, the British team fell down the pecking order, barely managing to score points consistently. Alonso was seen lashing out on team radio on a few occasions this year as his frustrations grew as the AMR24 couldn’t compete with rivals.
Mike Krack admitted that he felt for the two-time world champion. The Aston Martin boss emphasized that drivers in such difficult situations get ‘exposed.’ Moreover, Krack highlighted that a successful driver like Fernando Alonso was now forced to take seventh place as a good result.
Fernando Alonso needs ‘action not words’ from Aston Martin
The Spanish driver showed faith in Aston Martin’s F1 project when he joined the team. However, Mike Krack recognizes that now words will not be enough to maintain Alonso’s confidence. Rather, the Silverstone-based squad needs to show progress on-track to ensure that Fernando Alonso does not reconsider his future.
2025 will be a tough year for Aston Martin. Fernando Alonso would be more focused on the team’s 2026 campaign courtesy of Adrian Newey’s arrival. However, the British team still needs to make steady progress next year if it wants to keep Alonso motivated. Fans would need to wait and see how the Silverstone-based squad fares against the competition after the winter break.
