Ravichandran Ashwin reveals why he did not want a farewell game
Ravichandran Ashwin unexpectedly announced his retirement from international cricket in the middle of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25.

Ravichandran Ashwin, the former legendary off-spinner from India, shocked the cricket fans, especially the Indian fans, by announcing his retirement from international cricket in the middle of the all-important Border-Gavaskar series 2024/25 in Australia. No one saw it coming as Ashwin announced it after the end of the third Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane. Fans and former cricketers have wished, but many felt that he should have had a proper send-off before calling it quits.
Ashwin, however, said that he is not a fan of a grand send-off as he feels it to be a part of super-celebrity culture. Moreover, Ashwin does not want anyone shedding tears on his retirement day by giving him a send-off.The former off-spinner questioned the reason behind people chasing individuals.
He felt that people, and most importantly, fans, should get inspired by the cricketer’s accomplishments, their legacy, and how they left the field. The Tamil Nadu man revealed that farewell matches do not serve the spirit of the game. Ashwin felt that it was wrong that a match was organised just to honour and celebrate him.
Ravichandran Ashwin left the cricket field without any regrets
Ashwin revealed that he has no regrets about leaving his international career. He is happy and content to pick up 537 Test wickets and has accepted his departure from international cricket gracefully. Ashwin revealed that people chase something when they don’t have it but should not regret something that they don’t have.
Meanwhile, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is level at 1-1 after three matches. The fourth Test match will kickstart on December 26 at the MCG. Tanush Kotian was added as the replacement for Ashwin for the final two Test matches against Australia.
