Pat Cummins, the Australian captain, won the toss in the fourth Test match between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and elected to bat first. His team posted a mammoth total of 474 runs on the board in the first innings. Steve Smith scored 140 runs, Marnus Labuschagne scored 72 runs, Usman Khawaja scored 57 runs, and the debutant Sam Konstas scored a quickfire 60.
The Indian bowlers did not have any answers to the onslaught from the Australian batters, and the captain, Rohit Sharma, looked clueless on the field with his tactics. He has been in the firing line for quite some time for his attitude and his captaincy in the longest format of the game.
As such, former Australian batter Simon Katich has slammed Sharma for his captaincy. Katich stated that Australia has bullied India on the field, and Sharma has been very reactive with his captaincy calls and decisions.
Under Sharma, India have not won any Test match in the last five games. India suffered a 3-0 whitewash at home against New Zealand, which was their first Test series defeat at home since 2012. It was also their first whitewash suffered at home in a Test series.
Rohit Sharma has not fired with the bat as well
Sharma has been out of form with the bat as well and has struggled to score runs in this test series against Australia as well. He missed out on the first Test match due to the birth of his son and made his comeback in the second Test. However, he has looked awfully out of touch and also perished for just three runs in the first innings in Melbourne.
Katich also heaped praise on Smith as the veteran Australian batter is back to his very best. He smashed his second century in the ongoing series, and Katich called it a masterclass from Smudge. He felt that Smith dominated the Indian bowlers right from the onset.
