India are in a tough time after the end of day 2 of the third Test match in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 at the Gabba in Brisbane. Australia are in a dominant position in the test match, having scored 405 runs for the loss of seven wickets. They are in this state courtesy of the centuries of Travis Head and Steve Smith.
The first day of the Test match was washed out due to rain. However, the second day saw the return of form for Smith, who has scored just 19 runs in the four innings so far this series. Smith scored 101 runs off 190 balls and scored his 33rd Test century. The Australian number four talked about his innings at the Gabba in Brisbane at the end of the day.
Smith stressed the fact that he has played the game long enough to understand that situations change and he just needs to keep his belief. He talked about the lucky reprieves that he got at the start of the innings and pointed out the fact that he would have been dismissed in those chances on any other day.
Smith, however, felt that he was working hard, playing well, and finally got success after not having achieved it for a long time. The Australian number four kept the trust in his abilities and reflected that he had been batting well in the nets so far.
Besides Smith, Head scored 152 runs off 160 deliveries with 18 boundaries and took the game away from India. Jasprit Bumrah picked up five-wickets. Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Kumar Reddy scalped one wicket each.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 is level at 1-1
Smith went past the legendary Steve Waugh (32) and is now second on the list of the Australian batters with the most Test centuries. Ricky Ponting leads the list with 42 centuries.
Meanwhile, India have a task on their hands if they need to come back into this Test match. However, the weather forecast for the remaining three days of the Test match looks bleak.
The series is level at 1-1 with India winning the first match by 295 runs in Perth and Australia coming back strongly in the pink ball Test in Adelaide by winning the match by 10 wickets.
