Anthony Edwards surpasses $200,000 in fines as league looks to clamp down on future ‘Face of the NBA’s diction

NBA fined Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards $100,000 for using profanity

Last season, Anthony Edwards was touted as the next Face of the NBA. That was hugely in part due to his ability to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to the top of the West with a dash of flair along with his elite skills on the basketball.

This season though, the franchise traded one of the star teammates and since have struggled with chemistry issues. Those chemistry issues saw them complete November with a losing record, which led to some bursts of frustrations from their young superstar.

In one of the wins that month against the Sacramento Kings, the 23-year-old flashed the bird to their fans. That pushed the league to slap a $35,000 fine on him. Then for around a month it seems the star was not bringing out the extremities as his team focused on getting back to winning form.

In that winning streak, the Minnesota Timberwolves won five games to one as they brought their team back into the playoff spots. But then they lost three straight. After the second one against the Golden State Warriors, Anthony Edwards did not hold back in chewing out the officials.

Calling out the officiating is not something the league takes lightly, and they wasted no time in sending another notice to his doorstep asking him to cough up $75,000. With that, he surpassed $100,000 in fines with almost three quarters of the season left.

NBA slaps another massive fine on Anthony Edwards

Usually when one bleeds over $100,000 in less than three months of basketball, they tend to be careful. Anthony Edwards did not speak much after their third straight loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Then they started another winning stretch with key victories over fellow Western Conference playoff contenders.

The second of those saw the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Houston Rockets. After he scored the go-ahead three-pointer, the superstar was asked about the play during the post-game sideline interviews. To that he replied.

The play was for Jue to go 14—big-small pick and roll. Once he picked it up, who else? I gotta go get it. S**t. Nickeil found me, he cut me off. I’m like, ‘s**t, I’m goin’ for the win’. Like Gilbert Arenas said, I don’t do overtime, so f**k it.

That use of profanity led to the league issuing another fine for $100,000. The league mentioned in their PR release that his previous history was taken into account. That could indicate that the NBA is looking to police Edwards’ diction and attitude after charging him over $200,000 in fines this season.

If he is to be the Face of the NBA, he sure needs flair. Along with that, he needs to know when not to say something and how to keep it safe for children. At 23 years old the league might think making him lose his money is the best way to make him understand.
