LeBron James and Steph Curry's gold medal winning coach Mark Few and his Gonzaga Bulldogs avoided an air collision
In sports, teams resort to air travel to cut down on travel hours. That was what LeBron James and Steph Curry‘s Paris Olympics coach Mark Few and his Gonzaga Bulldogs wanted to do as they took a chartered jet to travel from Spokane to Los Angeles.
After the Christmas holidays, the Gonzaga Bulldogs took a chartered flight to fly to LAX on December 27th ahead of their game against the UCLA Bruins at the Intuit Dome. After landing in LAX, their Key Lime Flight 563 was taxing to its holding bay.
Pilots are in constant conversation with Air Traffic Controllers for directions while at an airport. When this flight was about to cross a runway, the video uploaded by a plane-spotting livestream shows the air traffic controller shouting out.
The ATC official shouted that out a Delta flight 471 was taking off on the same runway simultaneously. The ATC official’s call not only stopped the risk of a potential collision with Delta flight 471 but also avoided its jetwash from blowing the smaller jet away.

Delta flight 471 is an Airbus 321 which has enough thrust to topple the much smaller Embraer E135 jet on to its side with its jetwash. The interference avoided a potential mishap as either situation could have turned disastrous.

The incident did not result in any injuries and head coach Mark Few and his Gonzaga Bulldogs proceeded to deboard. On the next day, they went to lose to the UCLA Bruins. When the Associated Press reached out to the University, they replied with a statement via email that read.
The incident did not seem to catch the attention of Few, his staff and his players. They have continued with their schedule and are looking to return to the NCAA Sweet 16 for tenth straight year. The Bulldogs program is notable for developing the likes of Chet Holmgren into an NBA star.
Earlier this year, Mark Few was nominated to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a coach. This first nomination is a result of his exploits as one of the winningest coaches in college basketball. Winning a gold medal with LeBron James and Steph Curry was one of the highlights of his illustrious career.
