The San Francisco 49ers were going up against one of the best teams in the league in the Detroit Lions. Knowing that, Brock Purdy and his teammates had to be on top of their game if they had to put up a fight and not be blown out like other teams have.
The Pro-Bowler quarterback came out of the gates with that mindset as he completed nine out of nine passes. That perfect passing sequence saw him throw two touchdowns and also run in for one. That overall effort along with him not taking a sack saw him finish the 1st half with a perfect 158.3 passer rating.
That performance helped his San Francisco 49ers keep a one score lead in the third quarter with his third passing touchdown of the night. Looking to score on the next drive, he threw a pass down the middle to rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall.
But Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph jumped the throw and intercepted the ball to hand it back to his team. The visitors took advantage and promptly scored a touchdown, much to the anguish of 49ers GM John Lynch who threw a fit of rage sitting in their suite. But his anguish was not done for the night.

A little later in the fourth quarter, Brock Purdy threw a similar pass to the same receiver and was intercepted by the same defender. Lightning striking twice was too much for John Lynch as he had his hands on his head watching his team crumble.
Brock Purdy likely done for the season
With a little under three minutes left, the San Francisco 49ers were down two touchdowns and staring at a loss. For an injury-depleted team to avoid a blowout to one of the best teams in the league was a decent outing. But Brock Purdy and his teammates still wanted to try to bring down the deficit.
He drove the team down 37 yards and was about to look to throw another pass. However, Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch flew in to sack him which ended up injuring the quarterback. He never returned to the game and later ESPN’s Adam Schefter updated his status.
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Brock Purdy is dealing with a nerve issue in his right elbow and the QB will undergo testing Tuesday. Shanahan was non-committal on Purdy’s status for the regular-season finale. It’s possible Purdy has played his last game this season.

This means there is a chance Brock Purdy will not play the season finale against the Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers might look to avoid further injury to their starter and leave him back in San Francisco. With his contract negotiations coming up, it will be safe for him to avoid the trip as well.
