Caitlin Clark’s monstrous record gets taken over by ‘next big thing’ JuJu Watkins

USC star JuJu Watkins sets new record once held by WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark

In the past 10 college basketball seasons, Caitlin Clark held the record for fastest player to reach fifteen 30-point games. The now WNBA and Indiana Fever superstar proved how highly rated she was with Iowa. But now, USC star JuJu Watkins is playing her way to establish herself as Clark’s heir apparent.

Last time around, Watkins and her USC Trojans lost their first game of the season to fellow ranked program, Notre Dame. That might have lit a spark for the team looking to win it all this season. Against Saint Louis, Watkins put up 34 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals as the Trojans won comfortably.

The game also saw projected No. 2 pick of the upcoming WNBA draft Kiki Iriafen score 30 points and 12 rebounds as USC returned to its blowout ways winning this game 104-65. But more than that, it was their leading superstar who set another college basketball record. JuJu Watkins scored her fifteenth 30-point game of her career.

But she managed to reach that feat in just 41 games. That means she surpassed Caitlin Clark who took 42 games to reach that feat. Analysts have billed the Los Angeles native as the ‘next big thing’ after the Indiana Fever superstar. If she continues at this pace, it may not surprise many if the 19-year-old ends up either matching or surpassing Clark’s exploits with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

JuJu Watkins joins Caitlin Clark in another feat

Caitlin Clark has set the trail blazing for women’s basketball stars in terms of endorsements. She has managed to nab deals worth millions despite only playing one season in the WNBA. In fact, she started accumulating those deals from her time in college.

One of those multiyear deals is with insurance conglomerate State Farm. Clark signed the deal while in college and has been a part of several State Farm commercials and is a known fixture. Now as per Front Office Sports, JuJu Watkins joins her as the second NCAA athlete to be associated with the insurance company. This is the second major endorsement deal the USC star signed after she recently extended her Nike deal.

That deal was a similar multi-year extension to what Clark signed in her early days in college. If the 19-year-old continues at this pace, she could be taking on a lot more endorsements when she eventually lands in the WNBA. Experts already tout Watkins as the consensus No. 1 draft pick in 2027.
