With seven days to spare until they duke it out, CM Punk and Seth Rollins verbally jousted with each other on this week’s Raw. In one of the excerpts of what was a heated back-and-forth promo from both men, Punk finally admitted on live TV why he quit WWE in the first place.
The 46-year-old veteran hollered that he never hated working for WWE, but Vince McMahon. To turn up the ante, Punk claimed that McMahon loved Seth. In the beginning, The Visionary talked about Punk picking his balls up and going home after he loses on the Netflix premiere of Raw. That really pissed off the Chicagoan.
He asked Rollins whether that meant his wife, Becky Lynch, did the same thing, as she hasn’t been around for a while. The Architect told his former idol that Lynch was busy raising a kid, something that Punk would never understand. At one point, the ex-Shield member lambasted Punk for tearing into WWE on Colt Cabana‘s podcast—which was Punk’s first interview since walking out of WWE in 2014.
Its ramifications are still prevalent in the modern scheme of things. Punk is no longer friends with Cabana, which he made clear during the infamous AEW All Out media scrum in 2022. Coming to Punk vs. Rollins, Jan 6 on Netflix, it’d be a fight. Something that’s been years-in-the-making will come to life at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
As Seth promised, the fans are going to witness a side of him that they haven’t seen yet. In the closing moments, Rollins kept referring to Punk as cancer that needs to be cut off. One can expect fireworks for a fact next week.
Who’s more to gain from CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins?
As one would expect, the WWE Universe is split in half as to who has the upper hand in this burgeoning rivalry. Arguments can be made for both superstars to get the win. But that can’t happen.
So, if Seth Rollins does beat CM Punk fair and square, that might sabotage WWE’s reported long-term plans for The Second City Saint at WrestleMania 41.That includes a showdown with Roman Reigns. Whereas, if Punk cleans Seth up, the latter’s stock may nosedive heading into WrestleMania season.
And losing on arguably the biggest Raw episode in history would dent Seth’s momentum by far. Both Punk and Rollins have a lot to gain by beating each other; however, a loss is going to bite one up who inevitably goes down.
