The Los Angeles Lakers have done the ‘double’ on their arch-rivals, the Sacramento Kings, winning twice in 3 days. During both matches, Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis were at the helm of the attack as well as defense, dropping top performances for their side. However, Davis faced scrutiny for his ‘missed free throws’ that could’ve affected the result of the game.

After missing crucial free throws in the closing seconds of the Lakers’ 103-99 victory over the Kings, Davis came under fire. But his wife, who was closer to home, may have made the most hurtful remark. At the press conference following the game, Davis related a humorous yet interesting story about how his wife, Marlen Polanco Davis, criticized his performance.

I don’t want to say I’m frustrated, cuz I like both of them, both in and out, don’t feel like I could have shot any differently. In the past I like completely missed to either left, short or right or long, but both of these in now. I know, I definitely appreciate Rui, you know with the tip out, you know my wife even called me said Rui saved you, that made me feel like worse.

The incident revealed Davis’s humanity and provided insight into the relationships that even top players deal with off the court. Although his wife’s comment made the situation more humorous, it also highlighted how important Rui Hachimura was to keep the Lakers’ triumph intact. Hachimura also has been an important role player for the Lakers this season.

Notably, Austin Reaves‘ poise at the line and Hachimura’s timely play made sure the Lakers defeated the Kings for the second time in a row. James scored the most points (32), followed by D’Angelo Russell (20) and Reaves (16). Davis, on the other hand, finished with 10 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.

Many have often targeted the offensive input of Los Angeles Lakers’ star Anthony Davis this 2024-25 NBA season. However, one tends to ignore the defensive aspect of the game, the job that he is mainly told to do. In his most recent matchup against the Sacramento Kings, Davis helped his team win by four points by grabbing 15 rebounds, blocking three shots, and dishing out five assists.

With those three blocks, Davis surpassed the late great Kobe Bryant to take sixth place in Lakers team history. Davis is averaging 26.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game this season, along with 2.2 blocks.

He’s enjoying an even better season after having the best one of his career the previous year, and he’s a big part of the Lakers’ 16-12 record that has put them in fifth place in the Western Conference. Up next for Davis and Co. face the Detroit Pistons on home turf.
