The Minnesota Timberwolves recently played against the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA. The Timberwolves, who made a poor start to the 2024-25 NBA season have grown into the season lately. They have won their last 2 games, with their star man Anthony Edwards leading them in the attack. However, Edwards has been garnering attention for another reason.

During the Timberwolves’ victory over the  Clippers, Anthony Edwards was irritated, but it wasn’t because of the outcome; rather, it was because of the refereeing. During the game, Edwards got called for ‘carrying’, and took advantage of the moment to criticize Luka Doncic and the officials’ seeming preference for ‘stars.’

Luka Doncic do that sh*t all f*cking year… Every time he dribble the ball, he do this [carry]…  but you’re gonna call it on me? That’s crazy. That’s crazy. This is 2024.

In addition, Edwards’ teammate Julius Randle also chimed in on this, stating, “Ain’t nobody calling a carry, it’s 2024.” A carrying violation occurs when a player puts their hand underneath the ball to give themselves an unfair edge during a real dribble.

Despite being simple, the rule is frequently disregarded in the NBA today, particularly by elite players. Fans pay to watch spectacular dribbling performances and attacking highlights, thus this indulgence is motivated by a desire to continue making the game thrilling for them.

As among the league’s developing talents, Edwards feels he should be given the same leeway as players like Doncic. His annoyance intensified during the game. Also, James Harden, a different ball-dominant guard, was observed palming the ball repeatedly without a whistle. This was just after Anthony Edwards was given a foul for an identical violation.
