Michael Jordan sells iconic Highland Park house for $9.5 million
Michael Jordan’s 32,000-square-foot Highland Park estate, listed in 2012 for an ambitious $29 million, has finally sold for $9.5 million. The sale marks the end of a 12-year journey of price cuts, relisting, and ongoing efforts to find a buyer for this iconic property. Compass Realty’s Katherine Malkin confirmed the closing on December 10, following the mansion going under contract in September.
Initially listed at nearly three times its final price, the property underwent multiple price reductions, with a significant drop to $14.855 million in 2015. Despite these efforts, the mansion struggled to attract buyers in the luxury real estate market, even with its incredible listing. “NBA Superstar Michael Jordan’s seven-acre estate is as legendary as His Airness himself,” read the listing.
Michael Jordan’s property, built in 1995, is a monument to his basketball legacy. It boasts nine bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, and a variety of luxurious amenities, including a regulation-size basketball gymnasium, tennis courts, a putting green, and a cigar room. The iconic “23” gate serves as a literal reminder of its connection to the NBA legend.
However, while these custom modifications are surely a great tribute to the superstar, who moved out of the house in 2006 after separating from his ex-wife, they presented an equally difficult challenge in making the house commercially viable.
For its high price point, its lack of personalization towards any potential new owners was definitely a hindrance in the property getting lowballed, similar to other memorabilia of the legend.
How many homes does Michael Jordan own?
Michael Jordan’s extensive real estate portfolio mirrors his legendary career and financial acumen. Beyond the Highland Park mansion, Jordan owns several luxurious properties across the United States, including homes in Florida, North Carolina, and Utah, among others.
In Jupiter, Florida, Jordan resides in a sprawling 28,000-square-foot estate built in 2010. Located in the exclusive Bear’s Club community, the property includes 11 bedrooms, a media room, a pool house, and athletic facilities—perfect for the former athlete’s lifestyle. It remains Jordan’s primary residence, where he lives with his wife, Yvette, and their children.
Michael Jordan also owns a scenic lakefront home in Cornelius, North Carolina, with breathtaking views of Lake Norman. Purchased in 2011, this residence is close to Charlotte, which ties in with Jordan’s previous ownership of the Charlotte Hornets. But that’s not it. His portfolio includes a serene vacation home in Park City, Utah, and an elegant penthouse in Chicago overlooking Lake Michigan.
The Utah mansion, crafted with stone and wood, spans 9,574 square feet and features five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and a master suite with a private balcony offering stunning views of the Wasatch Mountains. Despite its opulence, the property, listed for $7.5 million, remains unsold.
In contrast, Michael Jordan’s Chicago penthouse, purchased in 1992 for $3 million, is the epitome of urban sophistication. With four bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, and a private rooftop deck, the penthouse offers unparalleled views of Lake Michigan and the city skyline. While no longer his residence, the penthouse is part of Jordan’s lasting connection to Chicago as the most dominant player in the NBA.
