Reaching Michael Jordan’s $6.4 billion brand value a 20-year target for Steph Curry

Steph Curry, Under Armor and his Curry Brand are looking to reach Michael Jordan's Jordan Brand in 20 years

Steph Curry is 36 years old and closer to the end of his basketball career as part of the Golden State Warriors. But from that illustrious career, he has managed to create a name for himself with which he created the Curry Brand with Under Armour.

That spin off helped the superstar create something similar to what the great Michael Jordan has with Nike. But when he created it, he knew he will not have the long list of athletes ready to jump over to his brand as Jordan brand does.

But slowly and steadily he is building a portfolio. After years of being the only star player on their roster, Curry signed Sacramento Kings star De’Aaron Fox. They announced his signing on a visit to China where fans went wild trying to get a glimpse of Curry.

Bloomberg Originals host Emily Chang sat down with the Golden State Warriors superstar to discuss his business ventures. When she specifically asked him if he was trying to compete with Michael Jordan’s namesake brand, he replied:

My version of that in the sense of he set the standard and then everybody’s in the comparison game of his career on the court and obviously, what Air Jordan means, you know, culturally on court as well. This is a marathon. We can have some success at a high level when it comes to what is, you know, 10-20 years look like that mirrors Jordan Brand.

Steph Curry emphasized that he and Under Armour are not trying to do everything what Jordan Brand did. Rather, it will be with the vision he has that will help them become as culturally impactful as Air Jordan’s are.

Steph Curry suggests his Curry Brand shoes are the best for athletes

In a bid to do things the right way, he and Under Armour are working on perfecting the marathon. When Emily Chang asked him how he intends to win over sneakerheads, the four-time NBA champion explained.

For us, we have to focus on what we do great. What I know we do great is, from a performance standpoint, I truly feel like our shoes, or my shoes are the best in the biz when it comes to making athletes better.

The 36-year-old gave his own example when trying to prove that he has been able to continue to year 16 wearing his own shoes. That itself is a testament of the quality his Curry Brand shoes have. He clarified that it is still a long game, and they need to do everything carefully.

Curry Brand currently has Steph Curry, Fox, South Carolina star MiLaysia Fulwiley and the ‘Japanese Steph Curry’, Keisei Tominaga, on their roster. With his China launch, and Tominaga’s signing, his aim is to expand globally.
