LeBron James called out by Skip Bayless as he closes in on Michael Jordan's record

Skip Bayless, veteran sports commentator and one of LeBron James’ most vocal critics, can’t help but criticize the Lakers star even during his biggest achievements. As James edges closer to surpassing Michael Jordan’s record for the most 30-point games in NBA history, Bayless took to X to downplay James’ achievement.

The LA Lakers’ 103-99 win over the Sacramento Kings saw James notch his 560th 30-point game, just two shy of Jordan’s record. LeBron James’ remarkable performance, which included 32 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, was key for the Lakers victory.

However, Bayless focused on James’ higher minutes total than Jordan, suggesting that this diminishes the significance of the record.

LeBron is now just two back of Michael Jordan for 30-point games, 562-560. YET LEBRON HAS NOW PLAYED 16,500 MORE MINUTES THAN MJ DID – AND COUNTING!

Skip Bayless’ remarks are nothing new. His long-standing preference for Jordan in the GOAT debate has never been a secret. While he acknowledged James’ durability and longevity in the league, he emphasized that Jordan achieved his records in fewer games and minutes.

LeBron James, now in his 22nd NBA season, remains one of the league’s most dominant players despite signs of aging. At nearly 40 years old, his ability to deliver high-scoring performances is a testament to his dedication to maintaining peak physical condition. While his scoring average has dipped this season, his occasional scoring bursts suggest that breaking Jordan’s record is inevitable.

LeBron James called out by Michael Jordan’s former teammate

Adding to the discourse, Michael Jordan’s former teammate Ron Harper took a jab at LeBron James’ legacy with the LA Lakers. Harper responded to a fan’s post celebrating James’ recent milestone of joining the Lakers’ 10,000-point club, an accomplishment achieved during his seventh season with the franchise.

The fan compared James’ tenure in the Lakers to that of Shaquille O’Neal, who played eight seasons and led the Lakers to three consecutive championships. Harper dismissed the comparison, writing: “No rings but that bubble lol,” a pointed reference to LeBron’s 2020 championship, won in the NBA bubble.

Harper’s comment reflects the skepticism surrounding the weight of LeBron James’ accomplishments with the Lakers. While his 2020 title added to his legacy, critics argue that the circumstances of the bubble—an isolated, fan-less environment—diminish its significance compared to other championships.
