The magic moment came after an even first quarter, and then Klay Thompson happened. Despite having a pretty lackluster performance up to this point, he was actively dishing out open shots and throwing lobs to his teammates. Then a series of spectacular plays by Thompson became the defining moment of this match-up.

After blocking a transition layup on the defensive end, Thompson had the ball in his possession with Kevin Durant on defense. Not turning away from the one-on-one challenge, Thompson put a slick ankle breaker move on KD, shoving him away from his left elbow. It was one of the cleanest forearm pushes caught on camera since Michael Jordan‘s last shot. Of course, he nailed the uncontested deep mid-range shot—a step inside the three-point line.

That’s a pretty average performance by Thompson, considering his role as a support player.

However, he continues to make the highlight reels and tabloid headlines with the dedication he plays with. His latest achievement came Christmas Day, when he eclipsed Reggie Miller to become the 5th all-time leader in 3-pointers made, just behind Damian Lillard.

Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant’s close friendship throughout the years

After leaving the Warriors, Durant revealed that he has maintained close ties with Thompson, talking “a couple of times a week.”
