Kyrie Irving Plan B revealed if not selected by Team USA for 2028 Olympics
Kyrie Irving wants another shot at an Olympic gold medal and suggests an alternative option if Team USA does not select him again.
Kyrie Irving has plans if Team USA does select him for 2028 Olympics
Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving recently expressed disappointment about Team USA not selecting him for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Irving had an excellent season with the Mavericks. It warranted a spot on Team USA’s Olympic team. In a recent interview with The Athletic, he found it strange that there were no tryouts for the team. This is unlike the previous Olympic cycles.
Kyrie Irving expressed his openness to play in the Olympics yet again. Winning a gold medal remains equally important for the Dallas Mavericks guard. During the interview with Sam Amick, he presented the idea of representing Australia in the 2028 Olympics. This is if Team USA is no longer a realistic option, as they snubbed him for the Paris Olympics.
However, there’s a slight hitch since he has only ever represented the United States internationally. As such, both USA Basketball and FIBA would need to approve the switch. Looking ahead, Uncle Drew also acknowledged that it may be challenging for him to return to the Team USA roster. This is because, by the time of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, he will be 36 years old.

Despite his age, there’s no argument that Kyrie Irving is still performing at an elite level, as evidenced by his impressive stats from last season with the Mavericks. He averaged 25.6 points, 5.2 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game while leading the team to the NBA Finals. With Luka Doncic and Klay Thompson by his side, Irving will aim to reach another finals this upcoming season.
Kyrie Irving remains fearless in the face of death threats
Aside from his dexterity on the court, Kyrie Irving has faced numerous off-court controversies in recent years. In an interview with Sam Amick, he revealed that the ongoing drama had a significant impact on his life. This led to death threats and required him to increase his security. Nevertheless, Irving also hoped for more conversation rather than inappropriate death threats.

It would be recalled that much of this turmoil occurred during his time with the Brooklyn Nets. One major controversy was his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine, which limited him to playing only road games due to local mandates.
That wasn’t all, as another significant incident involved caused a frenzy when he posted and defended a link to a movie with antisemitic undertones on social media. The backlash from this post led to his suspension by the Nets and a meeting with NBA commissioner Adam Silver. Since then, Irving has remained further away from controversies, focusing solely on his game.
