Warriors vs. Mavericks: NBA record broken, Luka Doncic records 45-point triple double, and Klay Thompson gets revenge

Stephen Curry and Luka Doncic

Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks traveled to Chase Center to play the Golden State Warriors and his former teammate, Stephen Curry, for the second time this season. In Thompson’s bittersweet return to The Bay, the Warriors prevailed in the previous game, but the Mavs prevailed 143-133 on Sunday (on his second return). However, it was Mavs’ star, Luka Doncic, that stole the headlines during this match.

Doncic became just the ninth player in NBA history to record multiple career 45-point triple-doubles, showcasing his dominance on the court. Meanwhile, Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors with an impressive 29 points. Notably, the game featured a combined 48 three-pointers from both teams, adding to the high-octane action.

This game saw five more three-pointers than the previous record set by the Pelicans and Warriors in 2019. The Warriors hit an incredible 18 of 27 attempts from beyond the arc in the first half, setting a new franchise record. Meanwhile, the Mavericks set a new NBA record with 21 made three-pointers, further elevating the historic night.

Although Dennis Schroder, who the Warriors acquired on Saturday, has not yet made his debut, his arrival is much anticipated given the Warriors’ 2-8 record over their last ten games and the subpar performances of Buddy Hield and Brandin Podziemski. The Warriors will have to steady their ship sooner rather than later if they were to achieve any success this season.

Luka Doncic drops Michael Jordanesque stat line against the Warriors

Doncic was on fire against the Golden State Warriors. This was the second time Doncic returned to the Chase Center this season. The first time, he tasted defeat, but this time he made sure to give them the taste of their own medicine. His performance against the Warriors was similar to that of NBA great Michael Jordan.

Luka Doncic recorded a season-high 45 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds, marking his 80th triple-double in his career. As per StatMuse, Michael Jordan is the only other player to achieve this stat line or better. Doncic finished with 28 points at the half after shooting 16 for 23 and made 9 of his first 11 attempts, including four 3-pointers.

Klay Thompson has his ‘revenge’ on his return to the Chase Center

Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson performed a three-point shooting masterclass on Sunday. They provided the Chase Center fans with a familiar sight, but this time they were wearing opposing outfits.

Now a member of the Dallas Mavericks, Thompson helped lead the team to a 143-133 victory over Curry and the Golden State Warriors with a season-high 29 points and seven three-pointers.

During their previous matchup, Curry was spotted mocking Thompson after the game as they beat the Mavs. However, this time around, Thompson dunked over his former teammate and the Warriors.
