Jason Kidd gives latest update about Luka Doncic’s mental state after home burglary
After news broke about the burglary at Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic's home, head coach Jason Kidd shared an update.
Jason Kidd comments on Luka Doncic's house getting robbed
Luka Doncic‘s home was burglarized on Friday, leaving the sports community shell-shocked by the revelation. Doncic’s name now joins a string of high-profile athletes, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, who have been targeted by similar incidents earlier this year.
Home invasion and burglary are traumatizing events, no matter who they happen to. However, according to Dallas Mavericks’ head coach Jason Kidd, who contacted his franchise player via text, Doncic is “doing fine.”
Kidd spoke to the media about the incident before Saturday’s match-up between the Mavericks and Blazers.
Reports indicate that unknown suspects broke into Doncic’s Dallas home, stealing jewelry worth approximately $30,000. Fortunately, no one was home or got hurt during the burglary. The FBI has linked this wave of thefts to “transnational South American Theft Groups,” known for targeting luxury homes using sophisticated methods like prior surveillance, drones, and signal-jamming devices.

For now, Luka Doncic is recovering from the distressing incident and gradually returning to his cheerful self. Currently, he is sidelined for at least a month due to a strained left calf. In the meantime, Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson will have to step-up and lead the charge as their beloved “Hermano” rehabilitates.
Luka Doncic and high-profile stars targeted in a string of burglaries
There have been at least six similar cases so far in 2024 involving superstars of the sports circuit. From Bobby Portis Jr. to now Luka Doncic, some of the biggest names have been targeted.
First, Mike Conley Jr.‘s house was robbed back in September for about $25,000 while he was enjoying the Vikings game in Minnesota. Next were Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, whose homes were daringly hit one after the other in October, causing $20,000 and $30,000 in damages, respectively.

Cass County Sheriff's Office documents say the burglary at Mahomes' Belton, Missouri estate was reported to cops at around midnight on Oct. 6.

Bobby Portis was next in line as the series of heists continued. Portis’ house was cleaned out of $45,000 worth of cash and jewelry in November. This was followed by Joe Burrow‘s home burglary in December, which reported $15,000 in stolen items. Finally, the Slovenian phenomenon, Luka Doncic, became the latest victim.
In the wake of these patterns, the NBA has issued a memo to team officials, cautioning them to remain vigilant and deploy armed guards, especially when they are not home during away games. Similarly, the NFL also released a notice to its players.
In 2024, the FBI has been actively involved in operations leading to the arrest of noncitizens associated with SATGs, particularly in states like New Jersey, where these groups have been linked to various crimes, including burglary and grand larceny. The FBI is also cooperating with sports leagues like the NBA and NFL to actively warn players about the risks these groups pose and the preventive measures they can take.
