LeBron James was glad he teamed up with Steph Curry and Kevin Durant for Team USA at Paris Olympics
When LeBron James took up the onus of assembling a super squad for the Paris Olympics, the first names he called were Kevin Durant and Steph Curry. Knowing his two greatest rivals were the best teammates he could have to ensure Team USA came back home with the gold.
The trio have been the fiercest of competitors in more than a decade of basketball. That competitiveness is what makes them the greatest of this era and the Los Angeles Lakers superstar knew that it would form the crux of their efforts to bring back respect to their country.
The trio were instrumental in bringing that gold medal while sharing the court together for the only time in history. When asked about it during their sit down in Paris as part of the NBA OGs: Friends & Rivals show, LeBron James revealed how it was sharing that court.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar added that all throughout their lives as basketball players, they have wanted to play with or against the best. Team USA gave them that opportunity to do so. Which is why, they will cherish that moment as they helped their country win gold.
He also talked about being able to be around the game’s greats, in this case Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. That helped all of them take something from each other as they look to extend their careers as long as possible.
LeBron James calls the OGs natural born hoopers
As they continued their discussion, Steph Curry added that as they are growing older, it they have to work harder against the younger stars. On that note, the near 40-year-old four-time league MVP went on to add this.
Kevin Durant added that the fact that the three of them have been able to stay at the top despite all the distractions is commendable. Especially when younger players are often found to not show the same level of focus.
They added that they are hoping younger superstars are set to take over from them whenever it is time. With LeBron James possibly retiring first, the dominos are about to fall. Curry has recently signed an extension which should take him to 2026-27. Durant’s current contract will finish a year earlier than that.
