LeBron James declared Christmas Day belongs to the NBA amidst NFL viewership battle

The NBA usually takes the key when it comes to sports on Christmas Day. But this year the NFL decided to host two games on the day and roped in global streaming giant Netflix to handle the broadcast. However, with the likes of LeBron James and Steph Curry highlighting the basketball side, there was expected to be a fight for ratings.

The NBA had five games scheduled for late evening to night broadcast. On the other hand, the NFL had two games with four top teams set to battle. The football league was expecting the teams to give it their all with their playoff seedings on the line.

Instead, it was the NBA side that managed to do that as all five games were decided within 10 points. In the NFL, Patrick Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs won over the Pittsburgh Steelers by 19 points. In footballing terms that is a blowout.

But the second game was even worse as the winning Baltimore Ravens embarrassed the Houston Texans playing at home with a 31-2 scoreline. After LeBron James led his Los Angeles Lakers to a close 2-point win over perennial rival Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors he said this.

I love the NFL, but Christmas is our day.

The four-time NBA champion did make a valid point as all five games were thrillers from start to end. That meant the basketball teams were entertaining for fans especially when compared to the football games on the day.

LeBron James’ former teammate validates his point

LeBron James was not the only one who thought NBA games were more entertaining on Christmas Day. Former teammate and NBA Champion Kendrick Perkins felt so too. When two-time Super Bowl champion Damien Woody tried to brag about how NFL games ruled the day, Perkins felt obliged to clap back.

No sir. Not today. NBA Games been way better than the NFL Games

LeBron James’ former teammate replied to Woody when the former NFL star declared that his sport was going to take away fans from the NBA. Kendrick Perkins though made it a point that basketball games were far more entertaining.

When the likes of LeBron James and Steph Curry meet, it usually ends in a thriller of a game. The league followed the same concept to strike the right balance in the rest of the games. In the end, the NBA won the entertainment factor even if ratings would show otherwise.
