Since Bill Belichick decided to join collegiate football by accepting the head coach position at UNC, he has met with tons of skepticism about this new job. Amid the chaos, his former player Rob Gronkowski has come forward with much-needed support for the legendary head coach for his UNC stint.

The legendary tight end and head coach may not have had an ideal relationship during their time with the New England Patriots, but they sure made amends as they moved on with the next chapter of their lives. Being the host at the LA Bowl for the thrilling matchup between California and UNLV, Gronk endorsed the UNC new head coach.

Coach Belichick, he’s gonna do an awesome job coaching those young bucks at UNC. I love the guy. I wish him nothing but the best. He’s gonna make college football that much more suspenseful, that much more fun, and that much more interesting.

Rob Gronkowski said on Wednesday, per ESPN

Additionally, the four-time Super Bowl champion predicted greatness for the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach, stating that he would bring his magic to UNC and soon get everyone hooked to their screens for Tar Heels matches.

Belichick may not have any prior experience in college football, but Gronk is confident that he would coach the team to winning games.

While considering this new job beneath Belichick, many also believe this is merely a secondary pursuit, given that he has the second-highest victories (302) as an NFL head coach and is expected to be inducted into Pro Hall of Famer by 2026. However, after accepting the position at UNC, Belichick shared that he always wanted to coach a college football team.

It just never really worked out. Had some good years in the NFL, so that was OK, but this is a dream come true. I grew up in college football with my dad. As a kid, all I knew was college footballIt’s great to come back home to Carolina and back into the environment that I really grew up in.

Bill Belichick said, per Andrea Adelson of ESPN

Belichick’s father previously served as an assistant coach at UNC for two years in the 1950s. The 72-year-old head coach officially joined college football on December 10 and has already begun working to turn UNC into a winning team by recruiting three transfers.
