LeSean McCoy sounds off on Eric Dickerson not rooting for Saquon Barkley to break his single-season rushing yards record
It's not every year a running back gets close to Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing yards record like Saquon Barkley but the legendary athlete doesn't want the Eagles rusher to break his record.

LeSean McCoy called out Eric Dickerson for not wanting Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley to break his 40-year-old single-season rushing yards record. Barkley has two games left on his hands to reach the milestone.
Dickerson set 379 carries for 2105 rushing yards in his second season with the Los Angeles Rams in 1984. Since then, many have tried to eclipse those numbers. Most recently, Derrick Henry (Tennessee Titans) rushed for 2,027 yards in 2020, and Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings) 2,097 in 2012.
After four years of Henry’s monumental run, Eagles Saquon Barkley is close to Dickerson’s record. After 15 games the 27-year-old rushed 314 times with the ball for 1838 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. He already bagged one extra touchdown and needs 287 yards in the remaining games against the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants, which will be enough to break Dickeson’s record.
However, the Rams legend isn’t too keen on Barkley breaking his rushing yards record.

Even though Dickerson retired more than thirty years ago, he still hasn’t lost his competitive mindset. LeSean McCoy, on the other hand, views the matter differently. The Eagles Ring of Honor recipient argued that the 64-year-old is hating on Barkley for being close to breaking his record.
LeSean McCoy has always supported Saquon Barkley’s rise at Eagles
Unlike Dickerson, McCoy celebrated Barkley making a name for himself in Philly. The former running back enjoyed similar status during his time with the Eagles and he passed the torch to Barkley when he switched allegiance from the Giants in the 2024 off-season.
McCoy congratulated the two-time Pro Bowler on breaking his single-season franchise rushing yards record after the Week 14 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Barkley rushed for 124 yards from 20 attempts, which took him to 1,623 yards, 17 yards more than Shady McCoy’s record-setting 2013 season (314 carries for 1,607 yards).

Barkley’s 255 yards against the Rams in week 12 broke McCoy’s single-game rushing yards total of 217 yards from the 2013 infamous ‘Snow Bowl’ against the Detroit Lions.
