Fans were already skeptical when backup quarterback Kenny Pickett was made a starter for the game against the Dallas Cowboys. His performance seemed to validate their concerns, as he garnered attention for his struggles to release the ball effectively, landing some humorous remarks on social media.
There have always been some concerns regarding the size of Pickett’s hand, even before he debuted in the NFL. The chatters were so loud that he initially refused to measure his hands at the senior bowl. Still, unfortunately for him, when it was measured at the NFL Combine, it was found to be below-average measurement, compelling the quarterback to take some unusual techniques to increase the size of his hands.
While covering for Jalen Hurts until he recovers from the concussion of last week, Pickett’s hands once again become a topic of discussion. In the first quarter, when the Eagles were seeking a lead against the Cowboys, Philly’s newly acquired quarterback dropped back to make a throw but hesitated before releasing the ball.
Despite taking a step forward to make the throw, Pickett continued holding onto the ball with a firm grip. He even went to gesture as if he was making the throw, but the ball remained firmly in his hands. While the moment sent shockwaves through everyone watching, the quarterback unexpectedly fell to the ground without even being touched and that’s how the ball was released out of his hands.
Kenny Pickett needs to be CUT ASAP.

Fortunately for the team, star running back Saquon Barkley immediately came to the rescue and recovered the ball. Although the Eagles succeeded with a blowout 41-7 victory against the divisional rivals, Pickett’s embarrassing moment resulted in a hilarious fumble.
Fan reaction to Kenny Pickett’s hilarious fumble of opening quarter
Pickett had an impressive game with 143 yards and a 22-yard touchdown pass aimed successfully at DeVonta Smith in the second quarter. However, his opening-quarter fumble overshadowed his deserving performance. NFL fans did not spare the quarterback from their wrath as they labeled it as the worst play ever seen.
One fan wrote, “What the hell was that?”, while another exclaimed, “That’s one of those cement balls with superglue on them.” Here are some of the fan reactions:

So reminiscent of Sean Payton calling plays in the 4th quarter.

Although some fans claimed the ball stayed in the hands of Pickett for long before it finally slipped, his small hands hindered his capability to make the throw. If the quarterback had bigger hands, he wouldn’t be needing gloves, and even with gloves, he could have secured the ball better instead of fumbling, with large hands.
