Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals resulted in a crashing end for the Cleveland Browns as quarterback Deshaun Watson was carted off the field before halftime. While the team has yet to provide an update on his injury, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport hinted at concerns that many are fearing.
During the post-game press conference, head coach Kevin Stefanski told the reporters that Watson would require further testing to confirm the nature of his injury, but the probability is a season-end for the signal-caller.
In the latest edition of “Good Morning Football,” Rapoport reported that Waston may have suffered a torn Achilles injury. The official confirmation by the team is expected to arrive after the quarterback’s MRI report. Based on how Waston sustained the injury, it is evident that he tore his Achilles–a conclusion that doesn’t require a medical professional to confirm, per Rapoport.

Additionally, the Insider also shared an update on the Browns’ backup quarterback, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who suffered a finger injury during Week 7’s game against the Bengals. Although his injury is said to be small, the team would require seeing him grabbing the ball at the least to declare him starting for Week 8.
Deshaun Watson carted off with potential season-ending Achilles tear
The three-time Pro Bowler sustained the leg injury in the second quarter of the AFC North showdown, which ended in the 21-14 loss–their fifth consecutive loss of this season. While attempting a pass, he suddenly fell to his knees, and something appeared to have popped in his lower right calf as seen in the slow-motion replay.
He remained in the position for some time before the medical staff ran to him. With tears in his eyes, Watson was carted off the field and was consoled by his opponents. The Bengals were at a 7-0 lead when the quarterback exited, and backup Thompson-Robinson took over.
Before suffering the season-ending injury, Watson was playing at the level that could have improved the Browns to a 2-5 season standing. He completed 15 out of his 17 passes for 128 yards in the first two quarters of the game.
