The Cleveland Browns have had a disastrous season, and the bad news continues to hit the team. Deshaun Watson, who went down with an injury in Sunday night’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, has been diagnosed with a ruptured Achilles. This means the quarterback will require surgery and his season has come to an end.
Deshaun Watson had to be carted off by the Browns’ medical staff after his leg buckled in an attempt to scramble. The quarterback was emotional and could be seen crying as he was taken off the field.
To make matters worse, the entire crowd at Huntington Bank Field booed the quarterback from the start of the game and even as he was being carted off.
The fans’ reaction to this entire ordeal was disrespectful and uncalled for. They took their anger and frustration with the team’s 1-6 record this season on Watson.
The quarterback has struggled immensely this season having thrown 1,148 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. Watson had to deal with one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL which has led him to be the most sacked QB so far this season.
Jameis Winston and LeBron James called out the Cleveland Browns fanbase for booing Deshaun Watson
Shortly after Watson was carted off, Dorian Thompson-Robinson stepped onto the field. However, he sustained a finger injury shortly after which resulted in Jameis Winston taking over the QB position.
After the game, Winston stood up for Watson and criticized the fans for booing their starter during such a time. After the game, LeBron James, a revered icon in Cleveland went on to X and posted a message calling out the Browns fans for their behavior.
The fans’ actions were not appropriate, but it was not surprising to see either. Deshaun Watson is no saint, as he has had his share of troubles outside the gridiron over the last 2 years. Football was the way that he would redeem his career but so far this season, and despite his best efforts, Watson has been bad.
The entire Browns franchise gave up its future to acquire him on a $230 million contract but has not begun to get its return. After Ian Rapoport confirmed that Deshaun Watson would be out for the remainder of the season, fans continued their criticism of him and the Browns on X.

These reactions are not surprising considering Watson’s recent track record. His character has been tarnished by the lawsuits and statements made by the women who accused him of sexual assault.
The Cleveland Browns took a huge gamble on him by offering him the biggest guaranteed contract in NFL history at a time when his future was uncertain, but it appears they lost big.
