Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill explains what he meant by the cryptic ‘I want to go coach’
Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, amid a season nearing his second-worst career stats since his rookie year, sparked speculation with a tweet about leaving the team, but that’s not the case.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill ruffled a few feathers earlier this week when he tweeted, “It’s time for me to go coach.” Naturally, fans inclined towards the worst and perceived the statement as a message to the Dolphins that Hill wanted to leave.
2024 has been a disappointing campaign for the All-Pro wideout. Despite the improved contract and promise to never leave Miami because his family loves the place, anything is possible in the NFL because, at the end of the day, it’s a business, as Cowboys LB Micah Parsons described it.
Hill’s numbers reflect the situation the Dolphins currently find themselves in. From 67 receptions, the veteran has produced 805 yards and five touchdowns, which is a far cry from his 2023 numbers of close to 1800 yards.
With the Dolphins no longer part of the playoff picture, Hill’s search for a Super Bowl got postponed for another year. However, who is to say Mike McDaniel can have a resurgence in 2025? So asking for a trade isn’t totally out of the question.

Hill’s tweet certainly pointed toward that route, but in reality, the story is much different.
So Tyreek Hill said his “I need to go coach” comment had to do with wanting to emulate what Deion Sander, Michael Vick and Teddy Bridgewater are doing, going from players to coaches. pic.twitter.com/KX6IG5kyp5

Hill missed out on a comma. He doesn’t want to leave the Dolphins or ask for a change in the coaching. Instead, he was excited to see former players transition into coaching.
The Dolphins can do without such trolling tweets from Tyreek Hill
The season has gone horribly wrong for the Dolphins. Losing 20-12 to the Houston Texans further rubbed salt in their wounds, which were slowly healing up. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw three interceptions—Hill was one of the targets before the Texans picked his pass off.
Things will only get harder for the Dolphins in the remaining three fixtures. Jaylen Waddle picked up a knee injury, and Grant DuBose ended up in the hospital after suffering a head injury. Malik Washington and River Cracraft are the two players expected to flank Hill when the Dolphins host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16.
The 49ers are +1.5 (-115) favorites to beat the Dolphins as per FanDuel Sportsbook. The last time these two teams met was back in December 2022 when the 49ers won 33-17 at Levis Stadium.
