The Philadelphia Eagles were riding high on a wave of elite performances from their all-round play to win eight straight games. Today, in their ninth win against the Carolina Panthers, their offense struggled mightily as Jalen Hurts and the likes of AJ Brown did not have a game to show for.

Hurts did throw for two touchdowns and ran in one as he managed to keep the score high enough. But what it did not show was the mere 108 yards passing he put up while being on the field for over twenty-six minutes.

In contrast, running back Saquon Barkley had 20 opportunities in the game and he repaid that faith by racking up his fourth straight 100-yard ground game. In contrast, Jalen Hurts attempted just 21 passes all game. That is what led AJ Brown to speak up when asked about what their offense needed to improve on.

Passing.

Reporters pressed him further on how challenging it is for receivers to make an impact with only 20 targets, especially when his running back getting 20 touches.

Incredibly tough.

AJ Brown replied to reporters

The superstar receiver added later that during the game he and Jalen Hurts do not communicate much nowadays on the field. That explains why he showed his frustrations on the sideline as he was captured in an animated discussion with his partner-in-crime DeVonta Smith.

Jalen Hurts‘ night was disappointing as he converted less passing first and third downs than the Carolina Panthers. His counterpart Bryce Young had to face one of the league’s best defenses and still managed to play better than Hurts.

Emmanuel Acho chimes in with his view on Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown

Analyst Emmanuel Acho observes all football games as part of his preparation prior to appearing on FS1’s show The Facility. What he saw from the Philadelphia Eagles, and especially their pedestrian offense against the Carolina Panthers, ticked him off. Then, after he heard Brown say these words, he chimed in.

Hurts, Sirianni, and Kellen Moore need to find a way to get AJ Brown more targets asap. You got a top 5 receiver in football and he is, rightfully, going to run out of patience real soon. He’s been respectful all season, but he’s about to have a reactive human moment.

Earlier, AJ Brown was appreciative when Saquon Barkley was hogging all the attention with his unreal play. But as a top 5 receiver in the league, he knows his worth is not proven unless he continues to play at that level.

He might not want to be the best every week, knowing he has superstar teammates around him. But that does not mean he does not get performances now and then. He may be closing in on 1000 yards, but he knows he can do a lot better than just 43 yards on a night none of his receiver friends surpassed him.
