Jalen Hurts became the latest quarterback to fall victim to dangerously running with the ball. The Philadelphia Eagles starter hit his head hard and was ruled out with a concussion.
Barely four minutes after Saquon Barkley gave Philadelphia the lead, Hurts took off with the ball on second and 20. There was open space ahead for him to cover until a couple of Washington Commanders players converged on him from two sides.
Instead of sliding, Jalen Hurts leaned forward with his head. Commanders Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner rammed into the 26-year-old. His head bounced off the turf violently, causing concerns among the Eagles coaching staff and players.

Even though the two-time Pro Bowler was up on his feet, ready for the next play, the referee advised him to get checked before resuming. It was the right decision. Hurts went into the blue tent, and moments later the Eagles social media team shared that he was ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion.
Off-season addition Kenny Pickett took over the quarterback role and in the very next play threw a touchdown pass to AJ Brown. At the time of his injury, Hurts was 1 of 4 passing for 11 yards and ran for 41 yards.
The Eagles suffer a close defeat after losing Jalen Hurts
Despite losing the All-Pro shot-caller, the Eagles found themselves ahead 21-7 in the first quarter. After Commanders QB Jayden Daniels threw a yard pass to Jamison Crowder, Pickett set off Barkley for a 68-yard run to score his second touchdown of the game.
The game slowed down in the second and third quarters, but the pace picked up in the fourth. Daniels hit Olamide Zaccheaus for four-yard and 49-yard touchdown passes.
Pickett struggled to match the pace of the game. In addition, Brown and DeVonta Smith dropped crucial second-down passes, giving momentum to the Commanders.

The final nail in the coffin came in garbage time. With just under two minutes left, Washington trailed by five points. Daniels took eight plays to reach the Eagles’ twenty-yard mark. He fired a dot aimed at Crowder and then converted the two points by handing the ball to running back McNichols. The game ended 33-36.
The Eagles’ productivity died down without Hurts. Barkley showcased short bursts of magic, but his 29 carries for 150+ yards weren’t enough to secure the 13th win. The loss snapped a ten-game winning streak and dashed the hope of playing postseason football for the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers.
