Despite being the Super Bowl favorite, when the Detroit Lions faced off against the struggling Chicago Bears, they did not take the match lightly. In fact, head coach Dan Campbell devised a game plan specifically targeting the opposing quarterback Caleb Williams.
In the latest edition of his podcast, the ‘St. Brown Bros,’ the Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown dived into the hit the rookie quarterback endured from linebacker Jack Campbell. Although the hit was legal, the rookie was not at all happy about it since he was hit in the thighs by the shoulder pads.
Dan Campbell had coached the defense by showing clips of the Bears’ quarterback to not only elevate their performance but also ensure that the opposing quarterback would be well-challenged on the field.
When Williams got the low hit by the Lions linebacker in the third quarter, it was initially thought to be a penalty. However, it was later found to be a clean tackle within the boundary of the play.

The Lions’ defense knew exactly how they ought to restrict the Bears rookie quarterback to handle the opposing offense. And they seized the opportunity well when they found the former USC standout to be running towards the sideline. In the post-game press conference, as he addressed the media, Williams claimed that he did not appreciate the play at all.
At the end of the day, the responsibility to take care of oneself on the field to avoid injuries falls onto the players, even though there have been rules made to protect the young quarterbacks entering the league.
