Despite a change of head coaches, the Chicago Bears failed to turn their fortunes around and Caleb Williams felt the full assault of the 49ers team in a 13-38 loss.

Caleb Williams sat in the Chicago Bears dugout inside Levi’s Stadium, California, shaking his head with just over two minutes left to play in the week 14 fixture against the San Francisco 49ers. The Bears were trailing 6-24.

Even though the Bears were in the post-Matt Eberflus era, that sinking feeling never left the bodies of the Bears players. The offensive line once again failed to protect their rookie quarterback. Williams ate 7 sacks on the night and lost one ball, costing them more than 40 yards.

By the time Williams threw his first touchdown, the Bears were trailing by 24 points, and at the final whistle, it became 25. The game finished with a 13-38 scoreline with the morale sucked out of the Bears players.

Williams completed the game with 17 completions from 23 tries for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns, along with 4 carries for 27 yards. Wide receiver Rome Odunze caught both touchdown passes while lodging 4 receptions for 42 yards. DJ Moore had 6 catches for 49 yards.

Caleb Williams acknowledged the total beatdown from the 49ers

The 49ers were so dominant in the game that after playing three-quarters of first-half football, Kyle Shanahan’s team outgained the Bears by 240+ passing yards and three touchdowns. None of Brown’s tactics seemed to have any effect on the Niners’ offensive line except for once when they managed to send quarterback Brock Purdy to the sidelines for a few snaps.

The league’s 15th-best rushing defense, which had allowed 19 touchdowns throughout the year, shut out the Bears run game completely. The biggest gain, whether through the air or on the ground, was just 17 yards. Running back D’Andre Swift had 14 carries but failed to even gain 40 yards. It was a total failure from the Bears’ point of view, and Caleb Williams summed up their performance accurately.

Yeah, we got… we got, I don’t if Thomas would like this but we got out as* kicked today. There’s no way around it. At one point they were 240 something and we had 9 or four total yards. So, that’s a regardless of how we feel… We got handed to us.

Caleb Williams said

Brown had a similar reaction as Williams when asked to describe the Bears game.

We got our bu**’s kicked. That’s the only way to say it.

Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown said

The loss left the Bears rooted at the bottom of the loaded NFC North with a 4-9 record. Although they can mathematically still qualify for the playoffs, the odds are less than 2%.
