Everyone knows what punting is. A specialized player kicks the ball as close to the opposition’s red zone as they can, but has anyone ever heard of the ‘Arm Punt’? Josh Allen created it on Sunday while playing the New England Patriots.

Around the eighth minute mark in the second quarter, Allen snapped the ball on third and 16. Even though there was deep open space for him to cover, the 28-year-old opted for a deep ball inside the Patriots’ end zone.

The ball traveled around 50 yards, but was well short of its intended target. New England’s safety Marte Mapu picked it off without any pressure. It was Allen’s seventh interception of the season.

Social media reacts to Josh Allen’s interception being counted as an ‘Arm Punt’

CBS Sports’ Ian Eagle called Allen’s stray pass an interception, but little did he know that the X account of the Network had a different name in its mind. They named Allen’s INT as an ‘Arm Punt’, which sounds a lot cooler than it should.

Social media did not take the sudden name-calling lightly. As Allen is one of the front runners for the NFL MVP award with Lamar Jackson, Saquon Barkley, and Jared Goff, many perceived it as taking sides by the network. One X user even argued that it was borderline racism.

Regardless of the online bickering, Josh Allen led the Bills to a 12th win of the season and a faint chance to snag the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The 28-year-old, with a broken hand, threw one passing and created a rushing touchdown for running back James Cook, who had 100 rushing yards in the game.

Allen finished with 16 completions from 29 attempts for 154 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. In 2024 he has 307 completions for 3703 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 103 carries with the ball, 544 rushing yards, and 11 rushing touchdowns from 16 games.
