Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans is gearing up for a high-stakes showdown against the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas Day. The Texans are coming off a loss against the reigning champions and AFC top-seed favorites Kansas City Chiefs on December 21st.

In a press conference, Ryans didn’t hold back his praise, declaring Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson as his pick for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player this season. The 2024-25 regular season is approaching the end – sparking more fuel into debates revolving around who should be the MVP. Jackson, who was the unanimous MVP last year, is one of the key names in the running alongside the Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen, Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley, and Jackson’s teammate Derrick Henry.

As Ryans prepares his team to face one of the league’s most dynamic players, he emphasizes the challenge of competing against someone he believes is the best in the NFL.

Lamar is playing some of the best football he’s played. He definitely jumps off the tape as the best player I’ve seen this year. Talk about the MVP? He’s definitely the MVP in my mind for what he’s doing not only run game-wise, but throwing the football, the accuracy, the decision-making. He’s playing unbelievable ball right now, so he’s going to be a really tough challenge for us this week.

As of now, Allen leads the MVP race followed by the Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. Jackson has an opening to win his third and become the fifth-ever to win back-to-back MVPs after Allen’s poor performance in the last game.

In Week 16, the Bills faced divisional rivals New England Patriots who gave them a run for their money. Allen completed just 16 of 29 passes for 154 yards with a touchdown and an interception as they fought tooth and nail to overcome a deficit and win the game by a meek 24-21.

Former players and big names rally behind Lamar Jackson’s third MVP title

Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans is not the only one rallying behind Lamar Jackson’s next MVP title. Despite Lamar Jackson’s impressive performance with 37 touchdowns and 3,787 yards, he seems to be overlooked in the NFL MVP race in favor of Josh Allen. Several analysts, including the Nightcap crew, Shannon Sharpe, and Chad Johnson, find this baffling.

Jackson is on pace to hit a 40 passing TDs and 4000 passing touchdowns and Johnson wants that aspect to be highlighted. He acknowledged that it would be hard to forget what Jackson has achieved this season.

It’s hard to ignore Lamar Jackson’s season. The man has 37 passing touchdowns with four interceptions and he’s around 3,700 yards, so he’s gonna be over 4,000 yards. Tell me, if you had Lamar Jackson passing for 40 touchdowns and 4,000 passing yards in the season when he got drafted… that wasn’t on anybody’s bingo card.

Similarly, former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady dropped a major hint on who he prefers as the MVP during an interaction.

However, it finally comes down to the members with voting rights and one of them, Mike Florio has already locked in on Josh Allen or so he says. Among analysts, Dan Orlovsky also hinged towards Allen as the better player among the two in 2024. All said and done, the tussle is getting closer and more dramatic as days pass with deadline looking.
