The Baltimore Ravens’ Christmas game against the Houston Texans was an emotional matchup for wideout Diontae Johnson. The former team waived him earlier this week and the latter jumped at the chance to claim him off waivers.
The reason for Diontae Johnson’s exit from the Baltimore Ravens was not stated. However, it was clearly not because he had issues with his teammates as Johnson could be seen cheerfully hugging Derrick Henry, Lamar Jackson, and Isaiah Likely before the Christmas matchup.
The wideout shared a few laughs and warm greetings with his teammates before returning to the sidelines. Johnson did not play in his first game with the Texans, but he watched the Ravens annihilate the Texans 31-2.

The Texans signed Diontae Johnson after Tank Dell’s knee injury
It has been a wild season for the wideout who started the season as a Carolina Panther but was then acquired by the Ravens, and now, will end his season as a Texan. Diontae Johnson‘s tenure with Baltimore saw him grab one catch for 6 yards and being part of 39 snaps.
His relationship with the franchise soured after he refused to play in the team’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. His non-compliance when called upon to play resulted in him being suspended for one game over conduct detrimental to the team.
He was then excused from team activities last week. In hindsight, the Ravens waiving was a no-brainer as HC John Harbaugh refrained from commenting on the receiver’s future with the Ravens after the game against Philly.
The Houston Texans were looking for a receiver after Tank Dell’s horrific ACL and kneecap injury. The Chargers had placed a waiver claim on him as well per ESPN, but he wound up in Houston. The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Diontae Johnson in the third round of the 2019 draft.
He showed potential initially and made the Pro Bowl in 2021 on the back of a 1000-yard season. However, the Steelers decided it was time for an upgrade before the draft and shipped him off to Carolina in exchange for corner Donte Jackson and the 198th overall pick.
