Christian McCaffrey, the reigning AP Offensive Player of The Year (OPOY), will not be activated in TNF against the Seattle Seahawks next week. However, the latest updates regarding the player have been predominantly positive.
McCaffrey was placed on Injured Reserve in Week 2, meaning he would have to sit out at least four games. The San Francisco 49ers have missed McCaffrey as they start 2-2 in contrast to the 4-0 start last year.
After sitting out four games, including the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals, McCaffrey was deemed eligible to return in Week 6.
Christian McCaffrey returned to his first on-field work recently, leaving a dash of hope in the fans’ hearts. The 28-year-old Coloradan’s return is largely based on how he fares in practice. Fortunately, McCaffrey’s calf and Achilles didn’t flare up amid the on-field work.
Recently, it was revealed that McCaffrey is suffering from bilateral Achilles tendonitis – a condition seen in runners and athletes. The sources, however, point out that the issue is largely on one foot while the other is comparatively way better.
If the progress continues, there are three timelines in which one could see McCaffrey making his return. He could ideally join the 49ers in their Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct 20.
Otherwise, he will take a week more and come in to face the Dallas Cowboys on Oct 27. The ideal and perfect solution would be McCaffrey joining the 49ers to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, giving him enough timeframe to heal better and avoid any setbacks.
Ed McCaffrey reveals the cause of Christian McCaffrey’s injury to be his weakness
Ed McCaffrey, the 49ers running back’s dad and three-time Super Bowl champion, revealed that the cause of the 28-year-old’s injury was overtraining. Speaking in an interview on the “Ross Tucker Football Podcast,” Ed shed some insight on how his son got injured.
The over-training is attributed to the post-season and the successive off-season when the running back was poised to return. Ed revealed this to be the root cause of the injury, adding that tendonitis tends to start in one and then creeps to both legs.
Ed also added that despite trusting his professional staff in Niners, Christian isn’t all pleased with their prescription, i.e. rest. He further noted that’s the reason why his son has been to Germany looking for other medical opinions which might help him get back sooner.
