The San Francisco 49ers will travel to Lambeau Field on Sunday, November 24 to play against the Green Bay Packers without Brock Purdy. Despite preparing throughout the week with Purdy as their starter, the third-year QB will miss the game due to a shoulder injury.

Jordan Love is available for the Packers, but they will be without star cornerback Jaire Alexander (knee) and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (hamstring), which they sustained during their win over the Chicago Bears in week 11. Matt LaFleur’s team wants to keep pace with the NFC North leaders, the Detroit Lions, and a win against the 49ers will make their job easier.

Kyle Shanahan’s Niners, on the other hand, lost their previous game to divisional rivals, the Seattle Seahawks and boast a record of 5-5. Injuries to players seem to knock the wind out of their sails time and time again in 2024. Besides Purdy, they will also be missing the services of All-Pro defensive end Nick Bosa, wide receiver Jacob Cowing, and offensive tackle Trent Williams remains questionable.

The fixture between the Niners and the Packers always produces memorable outcomes. From 73 meetings, the Packers lead the tie with 38 while the 49ers won 34 and one draw/inconclusive result.

LaFleur’s Packers lost 21-24 the last time they played each other back in January 2024 at Levi’s Stadium in the NFC Divisional Round. They also faced defeat 10-13 during the last Lambeau Field fixture as well in January 2022.

Why the San Francisco 49ers can win?

Even though it’s only November, it wouldn’t be a hyperbole to say this is the make-or-break game for Shanahan’s 49ers. With so many injuries, including the exclusion of Purdy, the Niners must win if they have ambitions of playing post-season football in January.

They have to rely on Brandon Allen, who last started an NFL game when he was in Cincinnati two years ago. Deebo Samuel is on a constant decline, while star running back Christian McCaffrey only returned to the starting lineup just a couple of weeks ago. Only tight end George Kittle looks like the danger man in attack and third choice Jauan Jennings will once again have a massive role to play.

Why the Green Bay Packers can win?

Love missed a couple of games and looked questionable in his distribution when he started. In his second full season as a starter for the Packers, he threw for 2081 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

Furthermore, they are the fourth-best offense in average yards gained per game with 388.1, and fourth while running the ball on the ground with 149.9 yards per game.

Running back Josh Jacobs, since moving from the Raiders to Green Bay, has 176 carries for 838 yards and 4 touchdowns. He is on course for more than 1300 yards and seven touchdowns. Jayden Reed is the Packers’ top receiver with 38 catches for 643 yards and 4 touchdowns.
