It’s official! Dallas Cowboys’ only hope for salvation this season, Dak Prescott has been declared out of the season after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. 

During his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed the status of his star quarterback Prescott on Tuesday, revealing that he is scheduled to undergo surgery for his torn hamstring on Wednesday. Although his prognosis is good, the team has officially enlisted him on injury reserve for the rest of the season.

He’ll have it there in New York. He had a good visit last night and he wants to do that there, and he’s got great medical doctors up there. His prognosis is wonderful, it just means we’re not going to have him the rest of the year.

Jerry Jones said

The three-time Pro Bowler sustained the hamstring injury in Week 9 after being sacked by Falcons linebacker Kaden Elliss. Although his injury was initially deemed not serious, he sensed something was different. He described experiencing a sensation he “never felt” before at the moment he tore his hamstring.

The Cowboys were awaiting the final diagnosis by the specialist whom Prescott visited on Monday in New York, to confirm his status for the remaining season. He has been provided with two options: rest and rehab or surgery. 

However considering the seriousness of his injury, he went with the latter option which will get him fully recovered in three months. Unfortunately, the season would be over by then. For the rest of the season, he has been replaced by backup Cooper Rush.

Fans react to Dak Prescott being ruled out for the season

With the Second-team All-Pro benched, the Cowboys’ playoff aspirations also appear to be gone. Prescott was seen as the team’s last hope of salvation, given his impressive performance last season. However, any remaining optimism among fans was shattered following the disastrous loss against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10, with Rush as the starting.

One fan exclaimed, “Embrace the tank!” referencing Stephen A. Smith‘s advice to the Cowboys. While another wrote, “That was a grand excuse of the year lol.” Here are some of the fan reactions. 

Despite the criticism, owner Jones has expressed confidence in Rush’s capability. However, if it still wouldn’t work for the Cowboys, they are expected to make Trey Lance the starter. The Cowboys are currently holding a losing 3-7 record and preparing for their next matchup against the Houston Texans.
